While Wash has said that Davis will be cutting into Hank's playing time (we can infer that he'll still be on the roster), I'm not sure that cutting Jones would be better than Blalock. Defensively and offensively, Davis and Blalock are redundant: free-swinging power lefty 1B. Jones has produced similar power as Blalock with more plate discipline (.217/.329/.482, 17 HR vs. .238/.274/.473, 23 HR).
I can sympathize with the attachment to the 8-year Ranger, but would it better (from a strictly on-field perspective) for the Rangers to drop Hank for Davis instead of Jones or a reliever? Thoughts from Jamey and others? |
