The third straight entry on this list with virtually no pro results in 2018 to judge, Winn spent the summer in the Rangers “de-load” program after signing as the club’s first-round pick, 15th overall, for $3.15 million. The Rangers were thrilled that Winn remained on the board when they went on the clock on Draft Day; club officials claim they would have selected the righthander even if they’d picked in the top three. A two-time Gatorade High School Player of the Year — earning Colorado’s award as a junior and then, after moving for his senior year, landing California honors — and recognition as Baseball America‘s 2018 High School Player of the Year, Winn has an advanced feel for pitching, repeatable mechanics, and command of a full repertoire, including a mid-90s fastball, a hammer curve that is his out pitch, and a slider and changeup that he continues to develop. Texas will hold the 19-year-old back in extended spring training before assigning him in June to a short-season club, likely in Spokane, where he will face mostly college hitters in what will be his highly anticipated official debut on a professional mound.
