As it was for Cody, 2018 was a lost year for Seise, who spent all season rehabilitating and re-conditioning after early-season rotator cuff surgery. The shortstop had exploded onto the scene in 2017 after signing as the Rangers’ second Round 1 pick that summer (29th overall, three slots after Texas took outfielder Bubba Thompson), hitting .336/.395/.509 in the Rookie-level Arizona League and prompting a promotion to Short-Season A Spokane for the season’s final month. He was limited, however, at Fall Instructional League, swinging the bat but resting his shoulder. When the shoulder didn’t respond as hoped in the spring, the decision was made to clean it up surgically and get the Florida product ready for 2019. The Rangers’ optimism that Seise can be a weapon on both sides of the ball has not been dampened. He possesses every tool at shortstop, with the athleticism and arm strength to be a plus defender. Still maturing physically, the 19-year-old remains somewhat raw offensively, but as he showed in his eye-opening debut a year ago, the potential is there to impact the game in a number of ways.
