It was a good read, but this team is no where near step 5. And if it is, I don't want it to be. I don't want to be like the Rays and Rockies - teams that have one magical season but lose it all in the Series. Not to mention it's not the same team that is was the year before. Both teams are struggling to stay afloat in their respective divisions - why would I want the Rangers to be like that? Let's win and keep on winning.

Probably one of the best in-depth reports on the plan. Too many media types over-simplify the plan and cut out the important pieces (especially steps 4 and 5).
Thanks for setting the standard. I anticipate you'll get a lot of references on this one.

I usually "lurk". I only logged in to tell you thank you for writing this piece.

Bravo!

Outstanding effort. While you and Hindman have always set the bar high in your writing, this piece is a master stroke.

Thank you for what you do.

Exceptional report Jamey. One of your very best. Was worth the anticipation.

I agree regarding the questionmark as to whether 09 is time to go to Step 5.

Would personally add Step 6, which I hope is also a part of Thad Levin's plan, namely: How to stay on top (Atlanta-Minessotta).

1. Identify players past their prime that are more on the muscle than heart side and let them leave no matter the PR cost, recouping draft picks. (Step one from the top)

2. Keep restocking the farm in the international FA market.

3. Trade overhyped prospects you identify as most likely to flame out....See the Braves circa 90s and early 2000.

Love the 09 draft, but no sure it is time for a full out Booom.

No Step 5 this year. Please.

Stay the course.

Good column, Jamey.

I was curious to know, now that the draft has passed, if you're planning on doing another Mailbag Q&A?

Wow, outstanding column. Maybe one of the best reads I've had in years. I've never seen the 750 at bat/100 inning threshold spelled out before. Excellent work.
