The Farm Report -- 5/27/2018

Rangers Farm Report: Games of Saturday 26 May
Box Scores

AAA: Round Rock 1, at Omaha (KAN) 2
Record: 20-30, 10 GB

SP Yohander Mendez: 7 IP, 7 H (1 HR), 2 R, 0 BB, 3 SO, 5.18 ERA
RP Tim Lincecum: 1 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 7.45 ERA
1B Tommy Joseph: 1-4, HR (9)

Tim Lincecum pitched on consecutive days for the first time. He was pulled after just 15 pitches and four batters (but only one retired) Friday night. Saturday, he faced another four and was able to complete an inning on just 13 pitches despite a walk. Back-to-back appearances sometimes indicate the pitcher is being prepped for Arlington, and Lincecum can exit the 60-day DL on Monday. To be honest, I have my doubts about his ability to overcome Major League hitters right now, but we'll see. Lincecum's injury assignment can run for another ten days.

Yohander Mendez provided his best start in over a month. 2018 is shaping up to be an ideal time for Mendez to prove himself on the big stage, but Texas isn't simply going to hand the opportunity to him. He made only one token relief appearance during his call-up, while the younger Ariel Jurado and veteran Austin Bibens-Dirkx have drawn starts. More outings like last night will help.

AA: Frisco 2, at Arkansas (SEA) 9
Record: 16-33, 14 GB

SP Tyler Davis: 2.1 IP, 9 H (2 HR), 9 R, 3 BB, 3 SO, 10.33 ERA
RP James Jones: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 SO, 10.13 ERA
RP Jeffrey Springs: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 6 SO, 5.53 ERA
CF Michael O'Neill: 1-3, HR (7), walk

In five starts since exiting the bullpen, Tyler Davis has pitched 17 innings and allowed 44 runners and 28 runs. Even with an eight or nine-man pen, that stresses the staff. Jeffrey Springs rebounded nicely from two straight four-run outings. As I've mentioned, he's pitched well most of the time, but the bad days have been bad indeed.

High-A: at Down East 4, Frederick (BAL) 1
Record: 28-21, +1 G

Steven Breuce: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1.54 ERA
SS Anderson Tejeda: 2-3, HR (6)
C Melvin Novoa: 2-3, HR (2)

A power outage halted this one in the 8th with Down East up 4-0, and they finished a few minutes before I hit the 'send' button. Novoa is off to a slow start in Kinston (.171/.194/.343) but is hitting .280/.328/.440 overall in 34 games. The Woodies turned five double plays.

Low-A: rain rain rain

12 of the 14 Sally League teams have played 46-48 games. Augusta has played 45. Hickory, 43. The Crawdads and RiverDogs are playing two today.

Five Years Ago Yesterday
Round Rock scored after 23 consecutive blank innings and won 4-3. Nomar Mazara, Jorge Alfaro and Joey Gallo had multi-hit games for Hickory.

Today's Starters:
AAA: Gallardo
AA: Benjamin
High-A: Martinez
Low-A: Phillips / Heffel
