Ricky Pickett, Cesar King’s slugging percentage, and a lemonade stand: The Newberg Report turns 20.

On May 25, 1998, I sat down at a computer keyboard and typed this:

“Texas signed Ricky Pickett to a AAA contract today.”

Today, the 20th anniversary of the Newberg Report, I wrote something about sending an email that started with those nine words to eight people, and the strange and unexpected journey that followed.  It doesn’t play out the way it did without you guys.

So thank you.

If you’d like to read “Ricky Pickett, Cesar King’s slugging percentage, and a lemonade stand: The Newberg Report turns 20,” The Athletic has unlocked it so anyone can check it out.  (They’re also running a 50% off special this weekend, if you’re interested.)

Whether you read today’s story or not, thank you for taking the time to read what I’ve written and what Scott and MJH have written as often as you have over these last two decades.  I’m grateful.

Jamey Newberg

Dallas attorney Jamey Newberg has been commenting on Rangers from the big club down through the entire farm system since 1998.

Scott Lucas

Scott Lucas was born in Arlington, Texas, to Richard and Becky Lucas. He lived mostly in Arlington before moving to Austin, where he graduated from The University of Texas. Scott works for Austin Valuation Consultants, Ltd., and has published several boring articles about real estate appraisal and environmental contamination. He makes a swell margarita and refuses to run longer than ten kilometres.

Eleanor Czajka

Eleanor grew up watching the AAA Mudhens in Toledo, Ohio. A loyal Ranger fan since 1979, she works "behind the scenes" at the Newberg Report.
