The Farm Report -- 7/16/2017

Texas traded IF Yeyson Yrizarri to the White Sox for additional money for international signings.  That's a disappointing end to his career with Texas, but he's much more likely to help the Rangers in a deal like this than being in the system. had him as Texas #17 prospect, while Baseball America ranked him 31st.  I'd lean toward the latter assessment.  While Yrizarri was never strikeout-plagued, his plate discipline was very poor and hadn't improved.  That said, he's still just 20.  The BA folks have speculated he and his cannon arm could transition to the mound down the road.

Rangers Farm Report: Games of Saturday 15 July

Box Scores

AAA: Round Rock 1, at Memphis (STL) 9
Record: 41-52, 18.5 GB

SP Clayton Blackburn: 4.1 IP, 10 H (1 HR), 7 R, 2 BB, 6 HBP, 6 SO, 0.00 ERA
1B Ronald Guzman: 2-2, double, walk

Lawdy. Three straight games with one run scored.

AA: at Frisco 7, San Antonio (SDG) 9 (13)
Record: 9-13, 6 GB

SP Pedro Payano: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 SO, 4.46 ERA
RP Joe Filomeno: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7.77 ERA
DH Andy Ibanez: 2-6, walk
C Isiah Kiner-Falefa: 3-6, double, HBP
3B Juremi Profar: 4-6, 2 doubles
SS Luis Marte: 3-6, double

Frisco has five losses when leading after eight innings.  The other seven Texas League teams have a total of nine.  The Mission plated two on three straight two-out hits off Nick Gardewine in the 9th, and in the bottom half, Frisco had three runners in scoring position but plated none (one was out at the plate).  Profar the Younger is enjoying his best month (.371/.450/.514).  His defensive profile isn't as expansive as his brother's, so he needs to swing that bat.  IKF is also swatting it in July (.348/.449/.449).

High-A: Down East 1, at Carolina (MIL) 4
Record: 11-11, 4.5 GB

SP Jonathan Hernandez: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 SO, 5.59 ERA
RP Tyler Ferguson: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 SO, 9.17 ERA
PH Preston Scott: 1-1, HR (3)

The Woodies were staring at a two-hit shutout until Preston's Scott's 9th-inning homer.  Hernandez ran up 76 pitches in his four innings.

Low-A: Hickory 4, at Greenville (BOS) 7
Record: 13-10, +0.5 G

SP Sal Mendez: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 SO, 5.16 ERA
2B Blaine Prescott: 2-4, walk
3B Charles Leblanc: 2-4, walk
SS Anderson Tejeda: 2-4, double

Leblanc has acclimated well to low-A (.364/.432/.394).

Short-A: at Spokane 8, Salem-Keizer (SFO) 4
Record: 12-18, 6 GB

SP Tai Tiedemann: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 SO, 2.42 ERA
3B Tyler Ratliff: 2-4, SB (1)
C Clayton Middleton: 1-2, HR (3), walk
SS Cristian Inoa: 3-4, 2 doubles

Tiedemann lacks the cache of Cole Ragans and Alex Speas but is quietly producing a very nice season.  Tiedemann was a two-way player at Long Beach City College; the Rangers drafted him in last year's eighth round and decreed him a pitcher.
